I teach people to freedive deeper, stay longer, and become safer through my online courses, podcasts, videos, and blogs. My deepest dive is 279ft and my longest breath hold is 7 minutes. I'm a Performance Freediving Instructor Trainier and have been teaching since 2005.

Hi, I have a question, how do you equalise with a small nose cuz I can’t reach my nose
if you are wearing. mask you should place yoru thumb and finger on either side of the nose pocket all the so you can feel your face through the mask. You just have to make your thumb and finger all pressing all teh way back so when you pinch them shut, your nose is pinched close.
@@ImmersionFD thank you very much
I've been trying this but in cold water when I take my mask off at any point during a dive and put it back on it fogs. Any tips for that? (If I never take it off after rubbing spit/antifog/baby shampoo it never fogs up)
just do this first thing as you get in the water. then pop on boat and get yoru mask sorted. This only needs to be done once.
Thanks Ted @@ImmersionFD

Please help I can never get my ears to equalize and I’m a brand new diver who has my certification dive in a few dives please help
if you pinch your nose and blow your nose, do your ears equalize on dry land?
Would you just do a short grouper call each time to avoid bring that much air up from your lungs?
You can pull up ari arond 20-25M, once and then use that air to equalize to the plate at 40M. From 25-40M You don't need to have your checks puffed out because you don't need that much air. You need to learn how to pull up some air and then hold that air, not repeatedly pulling up air every time you equalize. The less air you have in your mouth, the easier it is to manage. Does that make sense?
@@ImmersionFD it does, yeah. Thanks for replying!

Gracias.
Do u need to rinse it out after whats the vinegar for?
I dont' bother rinisng it out, The vinegar just helps prevent the ear infections.
Cause the first metre has the greatest % change in pressure so that makes sense.

incorrect! the first mandatory piece of information that EVERYONE should know about is knowing what depth you can actually dive to before you experience the bends. it occurs after 30 ft - basic diving knowledge 🤦♂
That’s scuba diving with tanks, this video is discussing freediving no tanks.
Do you actually pay attention to what you’re watching before you comment?
Awesome! I need to work on my turns…
good luck!
And I beg to differ with all those naysayers that come into the boat, calling people Rambo and foolish and all that other stuff It's either dive alone or don't dive Simple as that
90% of my life I've been diving alone, not because I wouldn't like to have a dive buddy but because I don't know anybody that dives, and I'm usually in remote places in the world where there is nobody else diving, and I don't know anybody that can go with me I do take every precaution, I always stay well within my breath-hold limits, very conservatively, set my watch with a timer to make sure as soon as that alarm goes off I'm headed up, always go up immediately and don't worry about the fish until I get some breaths That's all I can do It's either a dive alone or don't dive
a 0.5 liter mini scuba bottle will be the solution for a self rescue
@@sacha_mskyisn’t that another one of those “first things they teach you not to do”? If you’re freediving they say don’t do that because there’s a good chance you’ll rupture your lungs on the way up. Especially since you’re introducing new buoyancy to your body making you ascend faster.

Hello, my name is Monique Duncan. I live in Boise, Idaho. A friend told me about you and your vast knowledge on Freediving. I'm just now getting into the sport. Here in Idaho, we swim in rivers. I learned to swim on the Snake River. It can be a beast to navigate. Currents and channels is what we learn how to get out of at a very young age. My breath hold in the river is 2:48. However, I know freedive breath hold will be a different beast especially with the pressure on my body. I'm currently swimming in a pool due to it being still winter here. I have purchased my wetsuit, goggles, nose clamp and fins (Im not sure if they are the right length) I have people that are willing to be my safety crew I don't know where to navigate them for training in case of blackout. I haven't swam with my gear yet as I want to make sure I'm doing the things correctly right off the bat. I'm going to subscribe to your news letter now. I'm interested in zooms. I appreciate your daily videos but need to know where to start. Is there a series that takes me through from the beginning? I also need to know breathwork exercises. Thank you Monique P.S I should of put this in a PM but maybe someone else may have some of the same questions.

I have a question! When you raise the shoulders, are you taking air into your chest area? Or diaphragm? I’m sure it’s a fairly subconscious/intuitive thing, I’m just asking because I seem to end up with some excess air in my mouth when I raise the shoulders at the end. So I’m trying to figure out if I should consciously try to push the last bit of air into the chest or diaphragm area or both? Thanks!!! This video is really awesome.
YOu don't want the air in your mouth because your body can't absorb the oxygen from the air in your mouth, so you want to get into your lungs. Some people find this method puts SO much air in their lungs that they become uncomfortable. If that's the case, just skip the shoulders.
@@ImmersionFDthat totally makes sense!! Thank you SO much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate that and will put it into practice!!

Silly question - what if you breathe out, no weights, and still sink, just wearing a swimsuit? That is me. If I have air I float, if I lose it I sink like a rock.
that's not a silly question at all. That just means you are very fit and don't have a lot of fat ;). That means you would need to wear a wetsuit not for warmth but for bouyancy.

No i wasn´t! Does it have other usages ie out of water? Training breathing patterns so they become automatic is a great method though. Also during daily stressors. @@ImmersionFD
